Highlights
- The middle position between Lighthouse and Samudra.
- Two documented names with an unsettled naming history.
- A working coast when local fishing activity is underway.
Hawa, also called Eve’s Beach, is Kovalam’s middle cove. Its short sweep of sand and fishing activity offer a different atmosphere from the longer promenade at Lighthouse Beach.

Hawa or Eve’s Beach is Kovalam’s middle cove. Both names are documented by Kerala Tourism, while their precise origin is unresolved.
Fishing work may be visible, but no reviewed source gives a daily net-haul or boat-landing timetable.
Hawa, also called Eve’s Beach, is the middle cove of Kovalam. Its two names are well documented; the appealing story that one is a translation of the other is not.
Kerala Tourism names Hawa or Eve’s Beach as one of Kovalam’s three coves. That paired naming is the firm starting point. Explanations involving wind, Eve or a particular group of early tourists circulate widely, but the official description does not establish who named the beach, in which language, or when. The place is more interesting when the uncertainty is left visible.
The cove is part of a coast where fishing and tourism share limited space. Kerala Tourism documents catamaran trips as a Kovalam activity and has published a photograph of a shore-seine haul nearby. Neither source provides a timetable for launches, landings or net hauling at Hawa. If work is underway during a visit, watch without blocking the crew and ask before photographing people.
Hawa’s position between the southern and northern coves makes it a useful stop in a wider Kovalam visit. Rocky divisions and changing water levels can interrupt a beach-level crossing. Use the public road route when the shore path is wet, blocked or unfamiliar.
The name Hawa appears beside Eve’s Beach in Kerala Tourism’s description of Kovalam; its precise origin remains unverified in the sources reviewed.
The 1970s traveller trail changed Kovalam’s economy, while fishing remains part of its coastal life. That broad history does not establish a thousand-year history for any particular beach practice.
Compare the middle cove with the lighthouse-facing south and promontory-separated Samudra to the north.
If fishing work is taking place, observe from a distance and let the crew use the shore.
Treat the two names as a question with an open history, rather than a settled translation.

Amara Ayurveda Retreat stands on K. S. Road in Kovalam, rather than in central Thiruvananthapuram. The operator website describes accommodation, an Ayurveda centre, yoga and a programme tariff with different room and stay lengths. The listed Kovalam address and direct contact make it a residential option to compare with Rockholm and Aanandakosha, while the beach-side spas answer shorter visits. Ask which room category is available, how the doctor and treatment schedule are arranged, whether meals and transfers are included, the total price and cancellation terms. For an extended stay, request the written treatment plan and ask whether the room, consultations, treatments and meals form one package. For a shorter visit, ask whether non-resident appointments are available.

Book with the place itself. India’s cyber-crime coordination centre warned in April 2025 that convincing copies of hotel and pilgrimage booking sites are being pushed through sponsored search and social ads, taking payment for rooms the property never hears about. Use the contact and source details on each profile to confirm the exact business and booking channel. A directory entry or map pin alone does not establish an operator’s identity or current availability. Roampedia takes no commission and does not collect booking payments. If a booking page reached you through an ad, check the address bar against the property’s own site before you pay. Fraud can be reported on cybercrime.gov.in or on 1930.
