Overview
The Alappuzha Lighthouse is a historic 30-metre (about 98 ft) red-and-white banded tower built of laterite stone and teak, commissioned on 28 March 1862. It was the first lighthouse on the Arabian Sea coast of Kerala, begun under the Travancore Maharajas (foundation stone laid 26 April 1860). A spiral staircase of over 100 wooden steps leads to the top, which offers wide views of Alappuzha Beach and the Arabian Sea.
